Chef Joe was an intricate part of the Canadian Culinary Federation and, in particular, the Ottawa Branch. He joined the CCF as a National Member in 1968, became a Life Member in 2000, and became a member of the Honour Society in 2011. He was also an Honorary member of the Italian Society of Chefs and wore his ribbon proudly.
Chef Joe has supported the Ottawa Branch for many years. He served as Treasurer and Vice President, sat on several committees, and helped to raise considerable funds for the branch. Until his recent illnesses, Chef Joe was a regular attendee at branch meetings and events where he met old friends, shared his knowledge and experience with Junior Members, and, until 3 years ago, he attended every National Conference. Chef Joe enjoyed sharing his culinary talents as a volunteer at various events. He joined fellow chefs each year to celebrate International Chef’s Day at the Ottawa Mission and gave cooking demonstrations at the Ottawa International Food and Wine Show. A highlight of his career, however, was as a member of the team of Chefs who prepared lunch for Pope John Paul the 2nd during his visit to Canada in 1992.
